starting the new year with glitter!

there's nothing like a good glitter dose to put me in a good mood. here are 2 cards i made using the images i showed in yesterday's video.

they are so glittery and colorful. i traced the outline of the image with a black Copic marker after i adhered it to the scalloped circle to create contrast. i like it better with than without (as shown below).

i've had a lot of requests for a video on the glitter ritz cards i showed in this video and i promise it is coming. you'll just have to be patient with me as i have just finished a string of 12 days of christmas videos for my client. BUT... it is coming.

in the meantime, just check out that card below. the design is not mine. this card was part of another class i took back in octobre in texas.

to say that i'm in love with the whole glitter ritz product line is an understatement. i've always been a big glitter person but these really take the cake. they are super super fine and gives you this amazing velvety finish.

and believe it or not but the flowers started out as being just clear glitter. whaaaaaaaaaaat?! uh-huh!

a floral card + video

a quick quick hello to post a video and a card i made using the Stamp and Emboss by Hero Arts/Sizzix made at a workshop ( i can't take credit for the design!).

the video is a quick one showing you how to make a one-sheet mini pocket book. it's an old technique but seems to be very popular still so i brought it back to my YouTube channel from an old channel i had. enjoy and have a great day!

it's been so long since i've posted here that i almost forgot how to do it.

hey, i'm still here -- i've been really busy with the new job so i don't have a chance to come on here as often as i'd like. i've set aside a few projects that i wanted to show you but i haven't had a chance to take all the pictures. i'm thinking of making a video instead. hopefully, i'll get around to doing that on the weekend. no promises though!

i wanted to wish all my friends across the border a very happy thanksgiving. i hope you're spending it with loved ones, in comfort and joy.

so, i made this card for a very lucky girl who'll be having a special birthday soon to match a mini album that i'm working on (i'll show it when i'm done).

most of the supplies are by kaisercraft (stamp, paper and butterflies. the background vines are made with a crafter's workshop stencil (swirly vines) and modelling cream by viva decor that i tinted with perfect plum ink from stampin' up! i also used nestabilities dies to cut out the circle shapes and the lace-y circle.

i also highlighted a few dots with white opal liquid pearls (ranger).

2 javabellas --> 2 cocktail bellas

i'm running a bit behind today so i'm going to make this post real short. here are 2 cards i made for a commission. the mandate: birthday, modern girls, cocktails... i didn't have anything that fit the bill so i modified an existing stamp i had.

these 2 ladies by stamping bella usually drink coffee. today they're having cocktails! i drew cocktail glasses and glued them over the coffee cups that they originally hold in their hands! me so clevah! i also decided to distress the edges of my papers but at this point i really don't know why... i think i would have preferred not to. call it a creative glitch. but i'm still happy with them.

the coloring is done with copic markers as well as OMS and a prismacolor pencil in black for the shadowing. i used the paper piecing technique for the sleveless top and the dress. the only bling i added was a bit of dazzling diamonds glitter on the glasses and white opal liquid pearls by ranger ink on the chairs and table and sentiment.

i made 2 cards using the same stamp set with the same color scheme but they're both very different. the stamp set is cheers to you by stampin' up!

bling on the dsp, bling on the glass and liquid pearls on the scallop circle.  it's a happy card!

i made a peek-a-boo window for the sentiment.

the martini glass was colored with copic markers but i kept pretty simple. i also added some frosting with dazzling diamonds.

the 2nd card started with the leftover circles i had punched out for the peek-a-boo window of my first card. i then added some dsp circles and some bling.

this time i used markers to color the image. i also added some dazzlling diamonds on the glass and a bit of transparent glossy gel from viva decor over the cherry.

true friend + bling

wow, it's seems so long since i've posted a project of my own here (over a month) -- i almost forgot how to do it. as a quick update, i'm feeling much much better and i've actually driven my car for the first time yesterday. 6 weeks without driving is waaaaaaaaay too long for me!

so on to today's project: lots of bling! this card is a special request for a friend of mine and it will accompany an altered frame that i can't show you right now because the recipient has not received it yet.

the main criteria for this project was bling... a lot of bling... so i delivered!

the dsp is from bo-bunny which i've used on the frame also. so i used the leftover as the inspiration for the card and basically built over it with lots of different textures and layers.

the card base is a piece of silver cardstock from the immortal love dcwv pack, as well as the black glitter cardstock. i used a fiskars border punch to make the 2 decorative borders and blinged one of them by adding rhinestones to it.i wrapped a black stain ribbon around the card and added 2 flat bows. the sentiment is from a retired stamp set by stampin' up!

the flourishes are tim holtz's grunge board elements which i've altered by rubbing platinum inka-gold by viva decor. i love that look -- it's really shiny and smooth in real life. i also added some rhinestone strings from stampin' up over the flourishes.

i'm still trying to get into the swing of things but i'm still having a hard time sitting down for long periods of time. hopefully, i'll have regular projects to show you real soon.

cards bonanza part 6 : gift tags

it's no secret : i like making with small cards, books, 3d stuff. small is so enticing for me because your project takes a whole new dimension when you layer embellishment over embellishment. all of a sudden your small card is... well not so small anymore. it's become important.

when i started my cards bonanza, it was clear to me that i was going to have a lot of leftover cardstock. so i made gift tags.

they measure 2" X 2".

some are simple.

some are not so simple.

some are funky.

some are glittery.

all of them unique.

they all sport a silver elastic cord that can be attached to a gift bag handle or a big bow.

they're a fantastic way to use up all your bits and pieces and i like that!

cards bonanza part 5 : dream a dream + make a wish

i'm so in love with these colors : baja breeze, kiwi kiss and white. what a combo! when i'm not using teal, baja breeze is the one i grab for. i have a feeling that the new in colors pool party, lucky limeade and island indigo from stampin' up! are going to be my other fav combo. they're coming soon -- july 1st, my friends! i can't wait to show you those yummy colors.

on to today cards now --

same elements, different quotes and colors -- both fun. i love paper that incorporates text. it's such a fun element to play with.

this one is more feminine... i had some leftover flower rhinestones from my cards from yesterday so i added them here. i like the one on the heart :-)

this one could easily be a masculine card if you were to replace the flower rhinestones with tiny metal brads.

cards bonanza part 4 : wishes in rhinestones + pearls

happy tuesday everyone!

repetition of elements is another favorite design technique i like to use. in the case of these two cards, i used tiny die-cut flowers to form a square in the middle of both cards.

i had a good laugh when i saw both cards side-by-side in this picture because i didn't use the same background paper! the left one is crumb cake and the right, sahara sand. but they both work. one has a warmer feel to it (the left one). it's fun to see the difference between the two.

on this one, i used little rhinestone flowers to overlay on the die-cuts. here's another feature i noticed on the bigger rhinestone that sits on the larger flower: it's actually a button! look at the two holes... lol (and the reflection of my camera). i punched the leaves out of kiwi kiss cardstock with my two-step-bird punch from stampin' up.

on the second card, i used tiny pearls in the center of the small flowers.

i prefer this one because the pearls are all the same color, but that's just me.

i also added another tiny pearl to the small flower in the sentiment.

too cute! those 2 cards were also part of my cards bonanza of may 29th and i have more to show you in the days to come.

cards bonanza part 3

it's thursday and the weekend is almost here. i hope the sun will shine here in montreal!

here's the 3rd installment of my cards bonanza.

i looooooove this main embellishment. i like the different fonts, sizes and colors.

this card is all about layering text over text over text. but it works because of the different colors and font sizes. of course, some bling was essential!

cards bonanza part 2

happy tuesday, everyone. here are 2 cards i made during the cards bonanza of this past weekend -- two color schemes, same layout.

almost all of the supplies are from a retired simply scrappin' kit from stampin' up! (best ever). the predominent colors (kiwi kiss, baha breeze, riding hood red) were so much fun to play with.

at the forefront of the cards, a piece of dsp cut out with tim holtz mini baroque die for the big shot. i added a sentiment from the teeny tiny wishes stamp set by stampin' up!

i punched two slots on each side of the baroque piece so i can insert a ribbon. i also added a tag adorned with a flower and a rhinestone.

health update and great news to share!

hello everyone!

i truly believe that life throws obstacles and hardship your way to make you stronger but also to make you more aware of the joys and triumphs, however small they may be. lately, i've had all sorts of setbacks, healthwise and others.

but today, i feel like i've been empowered. i'm more in control of my life because i now know about the illness that has been plaguing me since ... well actually all my life but one that had manifested itself on a greater scale since last january. and the verdict: i have Celiac Disease. i finally know what's wrong with me. of course, i was floored by the news because none of the specialists i had seen so far had suspected this finding. it only took a minute for the hematologist to figure it out! i was so surprised! but now i'm equipped -- i can take action. i will have to be on a diet for the rest of my life but hey, as long as i can eat my potatoes and my chocolate... life is good :-) i have more doctors to see and tests to do but at least i know why.

but here's the news that got me dancing and screaming with joy:

remember this post? well... I WON, I WON, I WON!!! embellish magazine has picked my card as the winner of their decorative trim color trends challenge. i'm so tickled pink! this news has put a little balm over other problems i've been dealing with recently and i couldn't be more appreciative.

sometimes i draw... images and video

inspiration can stike anytime, anywhere. the proof -- a tissue box.

that pretty butterfly resting on a flower ignited in me a desire to draw again. i used to do it until i got married; then i stopped. recently i've been craving it but i need a visual - a starting point.

so armed with my 3H staedtler lumograph pencil, i drew a flower and butterfly in a different style than what's on the box. i wanted to fill in my shapes using a repetitive mandala-inspired style. i recorded almost all the process on camera. to watch the video you can go to youtube here or watch from the window below.

i'm so happy with out my drawing turned out. most importantly, i had a lot of fun making it. it just felt natural to me. almost like slipping into your favorite pair of slippers have a long hard day at work.

the image was first traced with a micron 03 pigment pen from sakura and then colored with copic markers. i also accented some details with a uni-ball signo white gen pen. as you see up here, i added a nice coat of crystal effects to emphasize the butterfly. he's so shiny!

embellish color trends challenge: kindred spirits

good monday, everyone!

monday -- now that i'm doing a job i'm passionate about i find i look forward to mondays and the promise of a new week full of goodness and opportunities. today, i decided to play along with the embellish color trends challenge.

the challenge is to use the colors in the picture as well as decorative trims.

because i love green so much, this challenge was a no brainer for me. i knew i had a lot of goodies in my stash. the starting point was to look for the perfect trim. 

of course, i selected way more than one and i wanted to use as many as possible without it being too clunky... so i layered them!

 

first, let's talk about the image. it's from a retired stamp set from stampin' up! called kindred spirits. i stamped the image with always artichoke on papertreyink ripe avocado CS. then i went over the image with a white prismacolor pencil to create highlights.

i made this card for my bff so the sentiment was right on. i embossed with a white diamond EP that has specks of gold in it. unfortunately, no matter how i took the picture, they didn't show up :-(

the trims are all from webster's pages but i forget which collections... the oh-so pretty designer button is a sparkler, also from webster's pages. i love, love, love these buttons. i can just see them in the middle of a handmade flower.

aaaah, so many ideas ... so little time to create!

for you in watercolor

for today's card à la carte's post, i made a watercolor card using mostly ranger ink products. then, my blogging sister jackie asked me whether i had tried it with Stampin' Up!'s products... well i did and here it is:

here are my findings: stampin' up!'s ink's formula doesn't react to water the same way as ranger's. ranger's are more fluid and more vibrant when spritzed with water. don't get me wrong: i loooooove my stampin' up! inks, especially the wide range of colors. and although this technique is more involved than just straight stamping, it is still achievable.

i love all the layers that are created by the embossing, the background and foreground watercoloring. i started by embossing the En Français background stamp in white. then i laid down some river rock ink on an acrylic block and spritzed it with water before stamping it over the embossed image. but that didn't work too well because of the lack of fluidity of the ink.

so i started all over again by reversing this process -- laying down my background ink, then embossing. the result was a lot better. i had to add a couple of spritzes on the image after stamping to get the desired effect. then i put 3 colors on my non-stick mat: more mustard, cherry cobbler and old olive. for the next step, i took my Inspired By Nature stamp and "walked it" over the colors, then spritzed the stamp with water before stamping it unto my background. again, the colors are not as intense but they still look nice. i highlighted one of the flowers with my Close to Cocoa marker (retired) to make it pop out. the sentiment is from Elements of Style. i added baker's twine and some rhinestones to finish it off.

i'm quite happy with it. it was a fun and happily messy experiment and i have to thank jackie for acting as my muse today.

i'm off to see my son playing a gig at Clyde's in Pointe-Claire tonight... if you're local, come for a beer and some good music!

more just for you cards

i made 3 more cards with Stampin' Up's Just Believe stamp set last night so i thought i'd show them all to you in one shot. they're basically using the same retired dsp and color scheme.

so i just stamped the image in chocolate chip, inked a bit with baja breeze and chocolate chip and added some brads in the middle of the flowers. i didn't want any bling on this one. the next one is more glittery...

i really really wish you guys could see this embossed image. it just sparkles!!! i've used the egyptian gold embossing poweder before and it's one of my absolute favorite. it's gold with diamond flecks. it's absolutely stunning. unfortunately, as usual, the camera doesn't capture all that shimmery goodness.

i loved it so much that i embossed the envelope as well.

and the last one (i apologize for the 1st picture... it's probably the worse one i've ever taken but am too much in a hurry to take it again.

again, i used another one of my favorite embossing powder: diamond white. i punched out a little window for my card and put the main accent inside the card, peeking through the front. i also sprinkled the soft sky card base with my homemade champagne shimmer paint mist.

you can see a bit of the shine at the top of the circle. but basically, the whole piece shines like that. it's really gorgeous.

alright, gotta go clean some more for my mega sale next weekend.

just for you - all occasions card

while cleaning my workshop area (oh yes, i'm still at it and will be for a good part of next week) i came across a whole bunch of card kits that i had pre-cut for previous classes and that were left over from people cancelling out.

so i decided to put them together but i didn't want to reproduce the same cards as for the class. some of them are dating from a while back and the colors and stamp sets have retired. the card below is one of those remnants from a class.

i decided to do an all occasions card cuz you can never have too many of those. i kept the design very simple, choosing to layer an image and a sentiment from Stampin' Up!s Just Because stamp set.

i added a bit of copper stickles to the flowers. the stickles is still wet on the photo, hehe, but i like the effect! i also added some green rhinestones on the ribbon.

as i've said in the past, i really get a kick out using up something that has been leftover. it gives me a sense of accomplishment like you wouldn't believe. PLUS, it makes room for new purchases :-)))

jennifer mcguire projects - part 7

good monday morning, everyone!

This is the 2nd to last part of my "jennie" projects. I love the color schemes of the following projects... 2 of them are soft-looking and one is very earthy.

this one is about the kissing technique. we inked up the background stamp with a shadown ink in green then kissed it with a text print stamp that was inked with a darker shade of green. love the effect and i also like the die-cut shape of the card.

the butterfly was colored with markers and inks... i didn't do to much of a good job with the green marker in the middle and by the time i finished coloring it in, it was too late. oh well, they say perfection is boring... we also played with stickles and self-adhesive lace. i wrote the sentiment with a marker at the bottom.

the next one had us working with sticky back canvas on which a leaf was embossed in white. we inked it up with 3 different colors and then sprayed it wth the pearlized mist.

and the last one was inked by saturating a lost inks on the craft mat and misting the inks with pearlized mist. so when you dip the stamp in that combination the coloring is so gorgeous and shimmery!

jennifer mcguire projects - part 6

happy sunday everyone!

i'm off to a cupcake festival today in downtown montreal ... yummmmm! so i'm just poppin' in for a few minutes to show you more "jennie" cards.

this one is a fun and bright one. it was stamped over a polka-dot background on kraft paper and colored with prismacolor pencils... not OMS! the shading was acheived with different colors and some white.

the next one is another one of my favorite. i wish you could see the shimmer on that baby! it was embossed in white on watercolor paper, saturated with distress inks and then sprayed with the pearlized mist.

check out that pearly yummy-ness:

love it! the last card is also very shimmery but this time it was colored with a brush and distress inks mixed with the pearlized mist. the shimmer is not quite so vibrant but noticeable nevertheless.

jennifer mcguire projects - part 4

we're into blues today! it's a color i don't play with often so that's a nice fresh change for this big ol' blog'o!

the first card i love so much! the image was stamped and embossed in white on a piece of die-cut watercolor paper.

then we inked it up with two colors, blotted, then sprayed with the pearlized mist. check out the shimmer:

the second card uses a shadow stamp, embossed in clear over a script background, then colored with markers. when you wipe off the excess, the flowers are revealed so vividly... it's gorgeous!

i'm gonna have to look through my stash to see if i can find similar stamps... oh wait!... i bought the stamp! LOL (of course :-))

pretty cool, huh?!

here's the last card. the image was stamped with white craft ink over black cardstock then set aside to dry. it was then colored in with coloring pencils. the ribbon was dyed with some dye-based ink and the background stamped with Stampin' Up!'s Polka Dot background (retired).

i hope you've enjoyed this batch of cards. more for you tomorrow... i'll probably finish posting them over the weekend. we made soooooo many! and now i'm gonna have fun trying out all these techniques on my own designs. yippeee!!!

jennifer mcguire projects - part 2

today's going to post is going to be a quick one. i'll let the pictures speak for themselves. here's another batch of cards we did during jennifer mcguire's class.

i forgot all the technical terms for the techniques we learned but this one is basically a masking technique with a background that we first stamped with a pearl paint (like Stampin' Up!'s Frost White Shimmer Paint i would guess) then we let it dry and sponged some distress inks over the image. the effect is quite awesome.

this one is another masking technique with inking over versamark ink. i love how the top element of the card is actually just a flap that opens up to reveal a nice background. the little bird was just stamped with dye-based ink then sponged with more ink.

this is one of my favorites and you'll understand why from the next picture.

can you see all that shimmer!!! this was accomplished by first coloring with markers directly on the stamp and then spritzing very lightly with jennifer's homemade pearlized mist. love it!!!

my bff, SophieThé (a.k.a. Miss Kool-Aid) had a contest on her blog last week and i won! to see the prize i won, you can click here -- it's the "Be Kind" canvas. i love it! but what i really wanted to show you is the card she made for me to accompany my prize.

this card uses one of sophie's hand-carved stamps out of a linoleum tile. it's pretty amazing! carving is not easy and she did a great job. thanks, sophie... i love my card (and my canvas).

la carte met en vedette une création originale de sophie. elle a gravé cette feuille dans une tuile pour linogravure. la linogravure est très difficile d'exécution et elle l'a bien réussie! merci, sophie... j'adore ma carte (et mon tableau).

juste pour toi

i'm aiming to declutter my scrap papers stash and this card is a product of that. here, i've used retired Stampin' Up!'s DSP  -- i'm lucky that 2 previously retired colors of that DSP have actually returned: riding hood red and baja breeze.

j'ai pris une résolution cette année -- lorsque j'entame un papier à motifs, je dois l'utiliser au complet... même s'il est retiré. c'est le cas pour cette carte. je suis contente que 2 des couleurs contenues dans ce papier à motifs sont des couleurs revenantes: rouge capulet et bleu balkans.

j'ai décidé de colorier mes petites fleurs avec les marqueurs Copic et les ombrages ont été faites avec un crayon de bois noir et du Gamsol.

i colored the flowers with my Copic markers and the shading was done with a black coloring pencil and Gamsol.

un petit bijou classique cristal du rhin vient aggrémenter le centre de chaque fleur pour une petite touche brillante. le sentiment, séparé en trois, provient d'un jeu retiré également dont le nom m'échapper malheureusement.

i added a touch of bling in the middle of each flower with rhinestone jewels. the sentiment is from a retired stamp set and unfortunately i do not remember the name of it!

here's a close-up of the shading effect with the black pencil. i love it!

une petite plongée sur l'effet d'ombrage effectuée avec le crayon noir. j'adore cet effect de profondeur.

the sunflower was made using Stampin' Up!'s Two-Step Bird Punch and 1 1/4" Circle Punch. each petal of the flower is actually the bird's wing! this punch is so versatil and tomorrow, i'll show you another project i made using the wing.

i've stamped the hello from the Chic Boutique stamp set in the middle of the flower with Whisper White Craft Ink and embossed in white. the small yellow oval below was put there to hide the SU logo on the polka-dot olive DSP + it ties everything together i think.

le petit oval jaune en dessous de l'oeillet ci-bas a été ajouté pour cacher le logo de SU sur ma retaille de papiers à pois vert olive. un petit moyen détourné de cacher des défauts -- de plus il fait un rappel au jaune de la fleur!

happy tuesday, everyone!

alright, here's the last card i'm gonna show you from World Card Making Day. this one was made with Stampin' Up!'s Morning Cup stamp set. this set comes in english only so i had to make up a french sentiment to put on the cards. i came up with "thé" gentille which means "you are" nice but with a twist... "thé" means tea in french! clever, huh?! i thought so :-) i just used my computer and the RGB code for chocolate chip, printed it on whisper white cardstock and away we go!

j'aime beaucoup cette carte car le sujet me tient à coeur. je suis une buveuse de thé sans égale et je devais à tout prix m'approprier de ce jeu de Stampin' Up!, Morning Cup. mais puisque le sentiment n'est qu'en anglais j'ai dû en fabriquer un moi-même. j'ai donc inventé cette phrase, "thé" gentille, et l'ai imprimé sur du carton murmure blanc avec le code RGB pour la couleur pépite de chocolat. brillant, non?! en tou cas, moi je trouve ça brillant :-)

kissing technique with inspired by nature

taking a break from cleaning my classroom to show you a technique. believe or not i've never done the kissing technique with my rubber stamps -- go figure! so today, i tried my hands at it and i really enjoyed it!

so i took a very juicy regal rose craft ink spot and covered the entire surface of the flowers. then i inked up the en français background stamp with soft suede classic ink and basically stamped it over the flower stamp. then i stamped on my very vanilla cardstock.

the only thing is that the script is backwards but i was going for the "architectural" effect of the script and not the text itself. i think it still looks cool. of course, i added some bling! i really like the effect.

so get your silhouette stamps out and try the kissing technique!

happy labor day with a cup of java

not only is it labor day for a lot of us and i hope you're enjoying this day to the max.

pull up a chair, put your feet up, grab a cup of java and your favorite book or magazine and just relax. i dedicate this card to day to those of you who are taking the time off.

i colored the the coffee pot with one of my favorite technique -- using colored pencils, odorless mineral spirit and a paper stomp. i also used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the vapor over the cup as well as the sentiment at the bottom.

this card also features the brand new Biz XL Tasteful Trim Die for the Big Shot and i luuuuurrrv it! check out the large scallop border on my card! and it cuts 12" borders!!! how awesome for scrapbookers!

unmounting my wheel stamps - part deux ... and a card

yesterday, following my post on unmounting wheel stamps, i realized that i could fit them in Stampin' Up!'s Clear-Mount Stamp Cases (#119105). yeeeeeeeeehaw!

look at this! I can fit: 1 jumbo, 2 standard and 1 builder or some other combo. guess what i'm ordering today?

on to the card. gen is going to be really impressed with me since i'm using Concord Crush. yes, i can't say it's my favorite color and it was a challenge to myself. but you know what? it's not so bad when used in a monochromatic way!

this card is obviously not fit for mailing out. i wanted to showcase the ribbon flower i made this week which is quite bulky. but the card is meant to be kept on a desk as a decoration. the flower is mounted on a stand from the Stampin' Up!'s Aviary Stamp Set, stamped with VersaMark and embossed with Silver EP. the sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, inked with Concord Crush Classic Ink. the striped paper is a Level 1 Hostess freebie -- In Color DSP Paper Pack.

in the middle of the flower, i added a button from my stash; i believe this one belonged to my Mother. it's so pretty with the bling in the middle.

to tie the bling from the flower to my title, i added 2 Basic Rhinestones Jewels to the Styled Silver Oval Holders (instead of brads).

i made another card which was actually meant for this stamped image but i ended up using it in a different way... that's for tomorrow's post!
