my new ribbon storage

i've been silent for a week because my mind was preoccupied by my medical tests again. but good news: my colonoscopy did not reveal anything! so now, i feel like i can breathe again. they still don't know what the heck is wrong with me  but at least the invasive tests are done with -- at least i think so! the next step is to go see a hematologist but i can handle a few more blood tests.

but i didn't need a doctor to tell me that i have an addiction. an organization addiction. yes, my name is CeeCee and i'm an organizaholic. especially in times when my mojo has gone into hiding. i then revert to organizing my "stuff". the project i'm about to show you has been in the back of my mind for years.

most of the ribbon i own is on spools. but i do have remnants of ribbon or ribbon that i bought by the yard. all that ribbon was stored in 12 plastic drawers but they were just dumped in there, like so:

and everytime i needed ribbon i conditioned myself to look in my drawers first before taking some from the spools. the fact of the matter is that i couldn't bear to riffle through the bottom of the drawer because... well, that created a mess and then i had to put everything back into the overfloweing drawer. arrgh, so depressing. i hated the chaos.

i had to find the perfect solution! it took some time but i finally got it. a while back, i had bought plastic cards for ribbon storage. they were quite pricey and i only had 2 packages of 10. LOL clearly not enough for all my ribbon. so i set about to make my own version of the ribbon cards. 

i have a lot of 12X12 DSP backings (white think chipboard) and the thickness is perfect. the last step was to cut a slit into the middle -- that way, i was able to slide the beginning of each ribbon to help hold it in place.

and look what i discovered:

check out the date -- february 1969!!! that is too cool. this is one of the spools of "old" ribbon and seem bindings that gen gave me a while back. oh the things you discover when you clean up!

and the bonus of all this? i now have 3 free drawers! woo-hoo!

here's all my pretties, separated by colors. the last drawer is for my twine, floss, linen thread and such. you can actually see the original plastic ribbon cards through the drawers, to the right of the purple ones. not a bad imitation, right?!

am i a freak? absolutely! but i'm okay with it.

happy new year

hi everyone!

i'd like to start by wishing you all the very best for 2011... may it be filled with health, peace and fulfillment!

i'd also like to give you an update on what's been going on here at good ol' CeeCee's Studio. there's a shift in my professional life (details on that later) and that dictates some major re-org in my studio space. i won't have access to what i considered my classroom so i need to move all of my stuff into a very tiny studio space. and THAT is my challenge for 2011! i'm taping the event (before and after) so when i'm done all post it here.

on a different note, i'm pretty sure i've got gallbladder problems. i will know more next week when i see my doctor but i've got ok days and bad days so it slows me down a little. and the fact that i can't eat my usual food drives me crazy also, but that's a question of mind-over-matter. on a positive note, i'm loosing weight!

anyways, here's a few pictures of the before scenario. i've already started organizing this space some but there's still a lot of work to be done. i need to apologize for the some of the fuzzy pictures but i'm trying to accomplish things quickly and not worry too much about details. 

as you can see, some of real estate is quite full already... not much room to add "stuff". speaking of "stuff", here's what i have to fit:

sizzix dies storage *** rangement de mes poinçons sizzix

just a very quick post here today, guys, to show you my new sizzix die storage. it's a shelving unit i got from ikea, the benno, for storing dvd's. this idea is not mine actually -- i got it from Marie-Josée Trudel (merci Marie-Josée!!!). I apologize for the bad lighting. As you can see, I still have a bit of clean-up to do in the shelving unit on the right, but basically, that little shelving to the middle of the picture is where my dies are resting for now. I love it, love it, love it! No more running to the classroom and fighting to pen the drawers of my old filing cabinet. And the space where it sits is just the perfect fit -- between my sink and the existing shelving units. Yahoo!

un petit message tout court aujourd'hui. je voulais vous montrer une photo de mon nouveau système de rangement pour mes poinçons sizzix. ce n'est pas mon idée originale mais bien celle de Marie-Josée Trudel -- merci, Marie-Josée! il s'agit du module Benno par ikea. la grandeur est parfaite pour s'insérer entre mon lavabo et l'étagère existante. plus besoin de traverser à ma salle de classe et de me battre avec les tiroirs d'un vieux classeur! stamp room re-org -PART 2! ***caution: lots of photos***

moving to a different area, this just over head of my workspace. this is a unit with drawers where i keep my re-inkers, stickles, alcohol inks, basically anything that comes in a small bottle. i made the stickers by printing on a sheet of retired soft sky CS and punched out with the large oval punch. the i used the scallop oval punch in a retired DSP for matting. unfortunately, i took the picture with the flash and i never realized it until now so the color is a little lost. but it looks good!

here's how they fit inside. i left blank spaces for the new colors! 

i keep my small embellishments in Craft Mates.

and this is inside each craft mates. i love, love, love these. each compartment locks individually so that you don't look anything. as you can see, i've made room for the new color collections. i can't wait to fill it up!

 

i've also got bins overhead which house other tools and supplies like blades for my paper trimmer, stampin' dimensionals, sticky tapes, glue dots, glitter, etc. 

 

each drawer is now labeled. even though the drawers are see through, i was still searching for the items i didn't need often. so now, every single category is properly labeled.

i've already shown you my stamp pad organizers but here they are again. notice the 5 empty slots for the new InColors!!! :-)

 

inside my cupboards, my containers with glitter all stacked up neatly. love it!

these are most of my coloring mediums like coloring pencils, watercolor pencils, twinkling H2O's, etc. on the bottom right, a sponge dauber for every single color, organized my color collection. each dauber is also labeled with my p-touch.

yeah, one can say i'm a freak! but i can now go to bed happy and with a sense of accomplishment!

stamp room re-org -PART 1! ***caution: lots of photos***

just in case you've been wondering why the long silence here, well it's for 2 reasons: 1) gen & i are really busy with Card à la Carte; we'll soon launch another product that'll knock your socks off! 2) i've been cleaning up big time in my studio removing all the retired paper, cardstock, re-inkers, stamp pads, ribbons, etc... oh, and i'm also gearing up my open house event next saturday. 

but since a lot of you like to see how other stampers and crafters organize their creative space, i thought i'd show you some of the things i've been re-organizing and labelling. please beware: there are a lot of photos in this post!

these baskets sit on top of my wall of cupboards and were never labeled. the problem with that is a loss of time when i'm looking for something. and everytime i need to reach up there, i have to get up on a small stool... so if on top of that i have to add the time it takes me to look into each baskets... time is a'wastin'!

 

each label is handwritten. i dusted off my calligraphy pens.

here are my SU 12X12 cardstock, all re-organized by the new color collections. the brights and the subtles...

... the regals and the neutrals...

... the in colors and some retired ones that i decided to keep, the DSPs...

... and one Cropper Hopper with simply scrappin' kits, sticky pages, window sheets, quick accents and rub-ons.

each color is separated and identified. i love this system; it really works for me.

this is my "other" papers (non SU) and that took a while to re-organize by manufacturer. but it's done and i feel so much better!

i think i'll break this down into 2 parts. so stay tuned for part 2 tomorrow.

getting ready for SU's color renovation

oh, it's started! i love this time of year when i'm getting ready for another Stampin' Up! year, getting excited about the upcoming Idea Book and Catalogue and getting all my "stuff" organized! 

my assistant Sophie came by last friday to help me organize my filing cabinet where i keep the 8 1/2" X 11" cardstock. the retiring colors were taken out and the rest was organized by the new color collections and properly labeled. 

i love that they now all fit into 1 drawer, since the new collections are comprised of 10 colors each (instead of 12). 

 

i keep my leftover pieces into a page protector that i've identified using the label that's on the package when i get from SU. gosh, i'm really liking how all the color collections look. i think my favorites are now the Brights Collection (it used to be my least favorite - go figure!).

 

these are the orphans... i'm not sure what i'm going to do with all this cardstock. what are other demos doing? leave me a comment with ideas please!

 

i'm also liking the fact that each collection now fit in one column of my stamp pad cubby. see the 5 empty slots at the far end?! that's for the new In Colors!!! i've also cleaned up the ribbon stash and making room for the new ones. can't wait to have all this new yummy ribbon to play with.

yeah, i've been reorganizing my whole studio and these cubbies were bought by my friend Diane and given to me when she decided that the system wasn't for her. the middle row is all my current SU markers and they're always at the ready right in front of my eyes. i love it! i didn't go color collection this time but by color group. i prefer my markers like that. dunno why - it just works for me that way. on the left are all my retired SU markers and other brands and my copics to the right... i'm too shy to show the rest cuz... yeah, got lots of copics. addicted! what can i say.

i'm also very shy to show you all the retired stamp sets i have and that's a whole 'nother discussion... for much later.

when i'm done re-organized my studio, i'll probably do a tour on video. there are lots of holes in my walls now. yikes!

stamp reorg... and Card à la Carte teaser *** caution: lots of photos

Wow, I hadn't realized it's been a while since I posted and I apologize. Gen and I have been busy with new stuff for Card à la Carte and I guess I also wanted to take advantage of the nice weather we had this past week... the summer is not so great in our area this year.

I'm actually taking a 3-day break, without the family (I hope Stuuph and her Dad won't get on each other's case -- these 2, let me tell ya!!!)  I'm meeting my sis-in-law Sue in Kingston. Since it's halfway from where we both live (she in Toronto, I in Montreal), we figured it was a good place to park our behinds for a few days and catch up on things... or shopping... or eating chocolate and watch movies. WHATEVER we decide to do will be fun!!!

I wanted to leave you with some photos of my stamp reorganization I've been doing for the past 3 weeks. It all started with my friend Kathy Vinski, showing me those amazing 12" X 9" plastic cases. It was like she had shown me the keys to a Ferrari Diablo!!! I fell in love and I immediately wanted to re-organize my stamp collections. Here are some photos that will better illustrate the process. 

First of all, all of the stamps you'll see in the casings were either sitting all willie-nelly (sp?) in baskets on 3 shelves, some on top of my little white cabinets and some were even underneath the bar of our main room! And here's where they all reside now:

Just 2 shelves!!! First I have to mention that these are not my current SU stamp sets. The casings come in 3 different thicknesses: 1", 1/2" and 1/4". The 1" fit wood-mounted stamps, the 1/2" fit 2 stacks of EZ-mounted rubber stamps and the 1/4" fit the photopolymer stamps. 

Here are my wood-mounted stamps from non-SU manufacturers, as well as all my Bellas and my Magnolias:

I love it... my shelf space is not wasted! I organized them either by theme or company, depending on the use I make of them. Here's what the stamps look like in their casings. These are some of my florals and leaves category:

And these are my Bellas, all mounted on EZ-Mount ( took forever but I'm happy I did it!). And because the backing is clingy, they stick to the plastic case. I need to stamp all the images on a sheet of paper that I'll be sticking to the outside of the front and back of the case so I know what I have in each without having to open them.

And my right shelf with my retired SU stamp sets that I've combined by theme, as well as some of my photopolymer stamps. My PapertreyInk are the only exception -- they sit in CD cases since they come with them and they have their own special place in a different corner.

I still have to label some of my casings, but I'll get to it. The urgency was to get them all aligned neatly. Next I have to attack the other shelves of those 2 wall units. Lots and lots of things are gonna go! I want everything neat and tidy so I don't have to look for things when I need them. I bought a whole bunch of Forget-me-not Keepers from SU to store the rest of the stuff.

Those 7 wicker baskets, which will be put to better use on top of my cupboards (I'll have fun making cute little labels for them!). They now house my glitter, beads, fibers, etc.

Almost clean now, with room to grow! Woohoo!!! So, thanks for sticking around for this loooooooong post. I do get exciting about reorganizing. It is my favorite thing to do :-) Can't help it, I'm a neat freak!

copic caddy and winner revealed

Let's start by revealing the winner Friday's contest.

I'm still on a re-organization kick and the last project I tackled is a caddy for my Copic markers. I bought this caddy from Bare Elements a while back from my local scrapbook store and it never dawned on me that it would be perfect for my ever-growing Copic markers stash. I was keeping them in a 3-drawer plastic case but I couldn't see the numbers or colors properly. Every time I needed a color, it was obviously at the bottom!

I covered the caddy with old Basic Grey papers. I've had the for years and still love them. They match the color of my walls and a tissue box I made a while back. Plus, don't you think that the new Rich Razzleberry ribbon matches the paper perfectly?! So yummy!

Now, they're all neatly sorted by colors! And... I have room to grow! I still have some space and in fact it's gonna look better as I add to my collection (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). The Copic markers can be stored up right so no problem here. The only problem was to find the correct way to store the glitter Atyou Spica pens and Multi Liners which have to be stored horizontally. So I put them in an empty stamp set case from SU. It fits perfectly in the slim compartment of my caddy!

Love it! On the other side, I had an empty cubby to store my air brushing system and extra cans of air.

So now, instead of rifling thru 3 different drawers that are over my head, I just gather my caddy and color away!!! I love it when a plan comes together :-)

CeeCee's studio!

As promised yesterday, here are some pictures of my studio area. The room is not all that big, measuring 8' X 10' with an tiny "hallway" leading to a sink. All the space is maximized for storage. It's not so easy on the eyes but it's functional and it's all MINE! I am intentionally posting smaller pictures to speed up the downloading process. You can click on each of them to see a bigger picture.

As you walk in...

 

Notice, my trustee Stampin' Up! cardigan I picked up at Convention hanging on my chair. It's always cold in the basement.

   

As you walk in, on the left, I have my Expedit shelving unit from Ikea where I keep my 12 X 12 cardstock and papers in Cropper Hopper's. I had to cut the top off my Cropper Hopper's as they were 1/4" too high.

 

The die-cutting/cutting/sewing machines area. Hubby put a neon underneath the cabinets for extra light.

 

The cupboard over this area is where I store all the dies as well as my Xyron machines and stuff. I love the magnetic strips system to store the Nestabilities. I saw this on someone's blog and I totally copied it. Love it!

 

The next cupboard is where I store all my coloring pencils,  watercolors, daubers, chipboard accents and letters, Hodgepodge Hardware, etc. I still need to label the different drawers to speed up the "search" process. There is nothing I hate worse than looking for things that are right under my nose! My daubers are also identified by by color families, then by colors . The wicker baskets up top are filled with fibers (on the left) and...... my candies stash (on the right)!

 

This is how I store my embossing powders and glitters.

 

Moving right along... to the right is my main stamping area underneath the window. My Stampin' Scrub is always open and ready to use, as well as my paper trimmer, magnetic mat and ruler (Basic Grey) and my Scor-pal.

 

I've got extra embellishments in the purple Craft Mates and in mini rubbermaid bins. Underneath, I used to hang metal baskets from the metal bar to store different items but I decided to replace the baskets with the spice racks from Ikea where I keep the tools and stuff I use every day plus the re-inkers, Stickles and alcohol inks. It's a messy-looking system but it's more functional for me. I used to forget about the stuff I had to play with. Now, it's right in front of me and it works!

 

Moving to the right of my stamping station is the computer area. It is also where my stamp pads and ribbons are stored.

 

Over the computer area is where I keep my flowers and bits of ribbons. They are color-coordinated (yeah, I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to organization).

 

My rolls of SU ribbon rack underneath... with scissors and rulers at the ready. These scissors are strictly reserved for cutting ribbon.

 

The wall of punches! This is located in what I call the "corridor". It's a result of a wall division hubby had to do in his multimedia room next door. I tried to maximize all the space I could get!

 

At the end of the wall of punches is the sink area. That's the unfinished part of the studio. I have ceramic tiles leftover which I would love to put down on each side of the sink as well as a backsplah. Some shelves would be nice too.

 

To the right of the sink I have two old bookshelves where I store my magazines and non SU stamps. That is also a work in progress. I have to think of a better system cuz it's not working. My unmounted stamp sets will be stored in binders as soon as I have the time to do that.

 

To the right of that is where I keep my SU stamp sets. I bought these cabinets from the bathroom section at Ikea for really cheap and they fit perfectly since they are not deep. I need to add another section on top of these because I am running out of space. And that is after I got rid of all my retired stamp sets!

 

And we've come full circle. This is behind the door where I keep my other punches. Since they don't have a lever, I couldn't anchor them on the other Ikea racks so I bought a shoe bag (is that how it's called?) from Wal-Mart that hangs on the back of my door. Perfect! On each side are wire baskets bought at Ikea as well to store current files, catalogs and litterature.

 

Also, this is how I store my 8 1/2" X 11" cardstock. They are in the filing cabinet underneath the die-cutting station and stored by family of colors. In each folder, I have a plastic sheet protector where I keep the leftovers of the same color. It works for me!

 

There you have it! I feel very privileged to have this little corner that hubby built for me. Not everyone is this lucky and I appreciate every minute I spend here. Have a good week! CeeCee

vinyl letters and one last CCC#10 entry

So the other night, my son calls me at 1:00 a.m. to tell me that he's decided to come home after all (instead of crashing at his friend's house). Since he had to travel by public transport from downtown to the West Island, Mom was too nervous to sleep! So here's what I did to calm myself down:

I've finally put up my Decor Elements. I love it! it was easy to use; the only problem I had was having to put it up so high. It's in an awkward place. But I did it! I was so encouraged by this that I decided to keep going, so I took out my vinyl sheets (this one in Dark Gray) and cut out letters to identify some parts of workshop area. This is what it looks like:

 

 

One thing I've discovered is that the Sizzlits will cut through SU's vinyl sheets. Wow! The possibilities are now endless. It was a bit of a challenge to stick those itty bitty letters to the wall but I think I did an OK job; they're not too crooked. I am so loving this concept. I think I'll be putting more throughout the house.

open house photos

As promised yesterday, here are some photos of my Open House event. I had goodie bags for everyone stuffed (by Gen, thanks!) with a copy of the catalogue with specials and promos inserts, a wish list, a pen, a Stampin' Up! lip balm and each bag were personalized with a key chain I made with the new ribbons, some Hodgepodge Hardware and Crystal Effects...

Here they are, like little soldiers standing at attention, waiting to be inspected. I greeted my guests at the door and handed them their bag before I sent them on their way to the food and bevvie station set up on my kitchen island. Tons of sweets prepared by Pauline (thanks so much!) were set out and it was yuuuuuuuummy! I also had those decorated water bottles with a sachet of Crystal Light in thei little pouch (thanks Kathy for putting them together). I think that was the big hit of the night! Whoever came up with this idea is a genius!

and the incentive stamps kits for placing an order. The topper is a piece of DSP cut out with the Bigz Top Note Sizzix Die, another SU exclusive, folded in halp and stapled (Gen's doing, again!).

In the basement, the demo projects area...

Notice the Big Shot section on the left-hand side? I wanted to cut letters into my vynil sheets and spell out the words, but lack of time did not allow for that. I will get to it though.

BTW, I covered my board with Veltex© fabric and I love them. All I have to do is put a "male" piece of Velcro in the back of my projects and stick it to the panel. That way, I can remove them at will without having to worry about how well they will stick a second time. And people can manipulate them and look them from up close. Love it!
